Raku

The Raku process is one born of fire that transforms pieces into beautiful multicolored objects of art.  Each piece is fired to 1,800 degree F ten the glowing yellow pot is placed into a container of combustible materials which catch fire. The container is then closed to allow the fire to burn up all of the oxygen in the container creating a reduction (low oxygen) atmosphere. After 15 to 20 minutes the pot is removed from the container and dumped into water to set the reduction colors. The pots below are the results of this exciting firing method.
